“Today, we commemorate independence by answering the challenges of our time, starting with building a resilient economy, ensuring social justice is achieved, and delivering equitable prosperity to all Indonesians,” Pandjaitan said in a post on his Instagram account @luhut.pandjaitan on Sunday.
He reflected on Indonesia’s hard-won independence 80 years ago, achieved through courage, sacrifice, and conviction that the country must stand as a united and sovereign nation.
This year, he believes Indonesia is entering a new era — one of collaboration, broad participation, and a shared vision shaped together by past and present generations. This comes especially amid a global situation filled with uncertainty.
“President Prabowo has emphasized the importance of preparedness, swift action, and the courage in decision-making,” he added.
Furthermore, Pandjaitan also stressed the importance of vigilance while preparing various strategic steps to accelerate inclusive and sustainable national economic growth.
“That is why deregulation remains a government priority, simplifying regulations, accelerating investments, and ensuring benefits directly reach the wider communities,” the DEN Chair noted.
The former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment also acknowledged that differing opinions are inevitable in a democracy like Indonesia. Therefore, on this meaningful day for the nation, he urged the public to remember that the Red and White Flag is a symbol that unites the country.
“It is not merely a national identity but the very breath of our people’s struggle. Raise it with pride, for it is where the honor of our nation is upheld,” Pandjaitan concluded.
The theme for the 80th Anniversary of Indonesian Independence is "United and Sovereign, Prosperous People, and Advanced Indonesia".
This theme reflects the spirit of nationalism that must be maintained as a foundation for moving forward.
Several activities were planned to be held to enliven the Independence Day, including the Red and White Flag Parade and the Proclamation Text, the People's Carnival, and the Independence Carnival.
