Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is continuing efforts to improve education quality as part of its strategy to strengthen human resources, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs Pratikno said on Sunday.

Speaking after the Independence Day celebrations in Jakarta, Pratikno emphasized the government's strong commitment to building a quality nation to achieve the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision.

"The education budget has been set at 20 percent of the State Budget, but this year's allocation is the largest ever," he stated.

President Prabowo Subianto announced on August 15 that the government will allocate Rp757.8 trillion (around US$46.8 billion) for the education sector in 2026, the largest education budget in the nation's history.

Pratikno noted that improvements in the Human Development Index (HDI) reflect the government's focus on enhancing human resources, particularly in health and education.

"Our government is paying significant attention to human resources, especially health — from building hospitals in remote areas and adding more doctors to providing free health checkups," he explained.

Pratikno also highlighted the sharp increase in life expectancy since Indonesia’s independence 80 years ago.

"Over these eight decades, we have made significant progress, especially in human and cultural development," he said.

This year, Indonesia's Independence Day was celebrated under the theme "United Sovereignty, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia," which reflects the spirit of nationalism as a foundation for the nation's progress.
