“Based on the February 2025 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), the construction sector employed over 8.7 million people, or roughly 5.97% of Indonesia’s workforce,” said BPS Chief Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
She noted that the sector also made a substantial contribution to the national economy in Q2 2025, accounting for 9.48 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), making it the fourth-largest contributor after manufacturing, agriculture, and trade.
“The construction sector plays a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy,” Amalia said, emphasizing that infrastructure development not only drives growth but also creates jobs and enhances public welfare.
She added that construction remains one of the most labor-intensive sectors, second only to agriculture.
President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism that government investments in downstream industries and infrastructure will generate eight million new jobs over the next five years.
“These investments, which begin this year, focus on downstream processing to ensure the added value of our raw materials benefits the Indonesian people. We estimate they will create around eight million jobs over the next five years,” the president stated.
