Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto projected the digital sector's contribution to the gross domestic product (GDP) to reach eight percent, targeting nine to 10 percent by the end of 2025.

"The digital economy is a key pillar in national economic growth that is inclusive and sustainable," he stated at the "Gen Matic ASN × TikTok Shop by Tokopedia" event in Jakarta on Wednesday, according to a statement.

Hartarto explained that the e-commerce sector is the largest contributor to Indonesia's digital economy, making up around 72 percent of the total value of the country's digital economy.

According to the minister, Indonesia is already the largest digital market in Southeast Asia, with the potential to reach US$600 billion in value by 2030.

"In the current era, it is crucial to drive economic growth, including through the digital economy. Indonesia is the largest digital market in ASEAN, with digital economy potential reaching US$600 billion by 2030," he explained.

However, he noted that despite rapid digital economic growth, Indonesia is still facing a significant challenge in terms of the availability of digital talent.

Over the past four years, professional workers in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector have only made up 0.8 percent of the country's total workforce.

To address this challenge, the government continues to encourage digital transformation in public services, including by enhancing civil servants' (ASN's) capacities.

The "Gen Matic ASN" training program involves 170 participants from 10 ministries and agencies, aiming to cultivate tech-savvy civil servants to support adaptive and innovative public services.

On that occasion, he also emphasized the importance of civil servants mastering digital content, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analysis.

The training participants were also encouraged to actively innovate and collaborate in applying digital skills to strengthen inclusive public services.
