Bekasi (ANTARA) - A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck southeast of Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday evening, damaging several buildings and prompting the cancellation of high-speed train services, local authorities said.

The Bekasi Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that a mushalla (small mosque) in Sukabungah Village, Bojongmangu Subdistrict, collapsed due to the tremor, though no casualties were reported.

"The quake was felt across Bekasi. One mushalla collapsed, but thankfully there were no injuries," BPBD head Muchlis told reporters in Cikarang on Wednesday.

Several houses and government buildings in neighboring Karawang District were also damaged.

Meanwhile, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) canceled eight trips of the Jakarta-Bandung Whoosh high-speed train after the system's earthquake early-warning sensors were activated along the route.

The quake struck at 7:54 p.m. local time, with an epicenter located 14 kilometers southeast of Bekasi at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Minor aftershocks were recorded, including one at 10:40 p.m., but authorities confirmed they caused no additional damage.

Muchlis urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unsafe structures, and follow updates from official sources.

He also advised those in multi-story buildings to be prepared to evacuate and reminded coastal residents to stay alert, although no tsunami warning was issued.
