“I believe we all have good intentions in the development of housing in Papua Pegunungan. We must ensure that everything is carried out properly and in accordance with existing regulations and governance. That way, the results will benefit the people and help drive economic growth,” Sirait said in a statement on Friday.
The Ministry of Housing and Settlements Area is targeting the construction of 2,200 housing units in the region — two thousand units for the general public and 200 units specifically for tribal leaders, community leaders, religious leaders, and other religious figures.
According to Sirait, the poverty rate in Highland Papua is quite high, requiring special attention from the central government. The region also faces significant security challenges, and the cost of living is among the highest in Indonesia.
Through the housing initiative is expected to improve public welfare and stimulate the local economy. The construction of these houses also serve as a concrete manifestation of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration being present for the people.
“I continue to hold meetings with Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian and Governor of Papua Pegunungan John Tabo to discuss the follow up action on housing development for the people in Papua Pegunungan,” Sirait added.
Meanwhile, Governor John Tabo expressed his administration's full support for the initiative, noting its importance for regional development.
He also expressed hope that local contractors would be involved in the construction process, as this could help stimulate the regional economy and create job opportunities for the local community.
“This reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s genuine concern for the people, and we are committed to fully supporting the development efforts in the field,” Tabo stated.
