Jakarta (ANTARA) - A sustainable infrastructure is key to advancing the energy transition and green economy, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono emphasized.

“The future must be built upon sustainable infrastructure—one that is not only strong and efficient, but also low-carbon, climate-resilient, and inclusive,” the minister stated at the PYC International Energy Conference 2025 here on Saturday.

He noted that infrastructure which empowers people can drive progress toward a green economy.

However, achieving this goal comes with challenges. For instance, the share of renewable energy in Indonesia was only 14 percent in 2024—well below the targeted 23 percent for 2025.

While 99.83 percent of Indonesians have access to electricity, the quality of power remains suboptimal.

“Households still experience power outages exceeding five hours annually, along with occasional service interruptions,” he pointed out.

Additionally, electricity productivity contributes just 2 percent to the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), he said. Yudhoyono also highlighted the heavy burden posed by energy subsidies.

“These numbers are not just data points—they are a call to action,” he asserted.

He stressed that energy transition is no longer a matter of choice, but an urgent necessity across economic, social, and geopolitical dimensions.

Funding remains a major hurdle, he added, underscoring the need for strategic and integrated financial instruments.

“The point is, we need a new financial architecture that turns climate goals into tangible investments,” he remarked.

The government is prioritizing sustainability in infrastructure development and investment, as outlined in the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan.

He cited progress in several sectors—including transportation, maritime, and housing—all of which have been integrated under a unified approach.

“This integrated strategy reinforces the vital principle that sustainable infrastructure and energy transition must evolve together. Each must strengthen the other to ensure economic growth without compromising our environment,” he concluded.
