“The success of JIWA at the Osaka Expo proves that Indonesia's digital cultural diplomacy can captivate the world, while also serving as a momentum to celebrate 80 years of Indonesian independence on the international stage,” Communication and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid said in a statement here on Saturday.
When JIWA (Journey Indonesia’s Wisdom & Arts) was performed, which highlights a collaboration of local wisdom from West Java's Kasepuhan Gelaralam and digital innovation, the Indonesia Pavilion recorded a daily visitor record of 30,580 people, a figure that remains unbeaten to this day.
According to data obtained from the Indonesia Pavilion management on Friday (August 22), the visitor turnout on the day of the JIWA performance contributed to a cumulative total of 1,906,296 visitors since the pavilion opened in April 2025, reaching 68 percent of the 2.8 million visitor target.
This figure also broke the previous record of 29,848 visitors on August 12.
Minister Hafid explained that the performance drew inspiration from the values and culture of the indigenous community of Kasepuhan Gelaralam. This community is known for its commitment to traditional farming methods and customary rituals.
Thanks to the government's Internet for Villages program in 2009, the community became connected to the outside world while maintaining its local values and traditional customs.
“Gelaralam was chosen because the area is a rice-producing region that supports the food security program, part of President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita program,” Hafid noted.
