Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Immigration and Corrections distributed five thousand packages of staple goods and provided free health examinations to residents in Jatinegara Sub-district, East Jakarta, on Wednesday.

"This kind of social service will be organized by all ranks of the Immigration and Corrections Ministry across Indonesia," Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto remarked during the activity in Cipinang, Jatinegara.

He noted that similar events are also taking place in other regions, including Karawang, West Java, and Tangerang, Banten.

"We will also collaborate with other institutions to carry out such activities as part of our contribution to the commemoration of Indonesia's 80th Independence Day anniversary," Andrianto added.

He emphasized that his ministry is committed to providing free basic commodities and health check-ups nationwide as part of efforts to advance President Prabowo Subianto's eight primary missions, known collectively as the Asta Cita.

Accompanied by his aides, the minister directly supervised the social activity, which was centered at the Cibesut Child-Friendly Integrated Public Space (RPTRA) in North Cipinang Besar Village.

In a tent set up by the ministry, residents consulted medical officers about their health, had their blood tested, and received sheets to exchange for medicines, vitamins, and staple goods.

One of the beneficiaries, Uswatun, 52, expressed her delight at having access to free basic goods and medical services.

"I am certainly pleased to have my health checked and to receive medicines or vitamins along with basic necessities. This activity is especially beneficial for people my age who need routine check-ups to treat illnesses at an early stage," she said.

She expressed hope that the government would make such events routine to help residents detect and address health issues before they worsen.
