In response to the incident, Indonesian Ambassador in Timor Leste Okto Dorinus Manik has inspected the incident site and coordinated with local authorities, ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said.
"The Indonesian Embassy in Dili has also demanded a clarification from the Timorese Foreign Ministry regarding the incident," Mulachela stated in response to queries from ANTARA on Wednesday.
The spokesperson also confirmed that the Indonesian victim, identified as Paulus Oki, has been evacuated and received medical treatment at a local hospital.
Earlier, Indonesia-Timor Leste Border Security Task Force Commander Lieutenant Colonel Reindi Nugroho confirmed that Oki was shot on the Indonesia-Timor Leste border on Monday (August 25).
"The incident in Inbate, Bikomi Nulilat Sub-District, North Central Timor District, occurred during a clash between Indonesians and Timorese nationals over a disputed land," the Lieutenant Colonel said.
The victim suffered wounds on his right shoulder after being shot with a rubber bullet, he stated.
Meanwhile, an investigation conducted by the North Central Timor District Police at the incident site found eight shell casings and a projectile suspected of being shot by officers of the Timor Leste Border Patrol Unit (UFP).
The incident in Inbate occurred over a long-disputed area between Indonesia and Timor Leste. Besides Inbate, another point of dispute between the two countries lies in the Naktuka region in Kupang District, also in East Nusa Tenggara.
Paulus Oki became the second Indonesian shot in the Indonesia-Timor Leste border following the fatal shooting of a man identified as AB, who was found dead with gunshot wounds while hunting about 3 kilometres inside Timor Leste's territory on August 16.
