Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - State-owned digital telecommunications company PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) has officially launched artificial intelligence (AI) centers in nine major cities to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as well as government institutions.

Telkom’s Director of IT Digital, Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi, said on Thursday in Badung District, Bali, that the establishment of the AI development and collaboration hub was in response to rising demand from various sectors.

“This is based on requests. Many companies, SMEs, and government bodies asked for support. We cannot do it alone, so we collaborate with different parties in AI to deliver customized solutions according to their specific needs,” he said.

After assessing the demand for AI support, Telkom set up its AI Center of Excellence in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Malang, Bali, Aceh, Makassar, Labuan Bajo, and Papua.

“In these nine major cities, AI use is growing rapidly across SMEs, entrepreneurs, and government institutions. AI has become a kind of FOMO (fear of missing out) among them. This is just the beginning, and perhaps nine locations are not enough or may not fully reach the target. What matters now is having initial representation,” Faizal said.

In these cities, Telkom opens broad collaboration between technology companies and customers, creating a platform to link products with users, while the company critically searches for solutions to meet customer needs.

Telkom’s Director of Enterprise & Business Service, Veranita Yosephine, said the AI centers have already shown significant impact across multiple sectors.

“Having worked with industries from both government and private sectors as well as state-owned enterprises, we see the impact is extraordinary. Productivity improves through more accurate data analysis, better decision-making, and stronger support for innovation,” she said.

Veranita explained that AI’s precision in data analysis cannot be achieved manually, which positions Telkom as a partner in identifying customer needs and addressing them with AI-based solutions.

For example, in the case of SMEs, Telkom can provide AI-powered CCTV systems that collect data from recordings such as product placement, expiration dates, employee movements, peak shopping hours, and goods flow.

These insights then guide business strategies to expand SMEs, similar to how franchises with hundreds of outlets operate, where human resources alone are insufficient to manage all processes.

With this approach, inclusive businesses have equal opportunities to grow.

“People are no longer limited by the capital they own. This solution can be universal for all market segments, and I find that remarkable from both economic and social perspectives,” Veranita said.
