"The Jakarta Provincial Government fully covers the treatment costs for all the patients. We want to ensure they receive the best health services without having to worry about the costs," Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said here on Friday.
He affirmed that the provincial government continues to coordinate with the relevant parties to ensure the victims are in a safe condition, the situation remains under control, and people's rights are protected.
On Friday morning, he also visited the house of Affan Kurniawan, an online motorcycle taxi driver who died after being run over by a police tactical vehicle during Thursday's protest.
Videos widely circulated on the Internet show the police vehicle appearing to continue moving after hitting Kurniawan, provoking people to chase it.
Wibowo also ensured full assistance from the provincial government to the victim's family, from handling the body to the burial process.
Earlier, a protest outside the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Thursday turned violent and sparked clashes that spread to nearby locations.
