Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government is working to ensure that the planned Indonesian Hajj Village in Saudi Arabia can begin partial operations by the 2028 Hajj season, Deputy Head of the Hajj Organizing Agency (BP Haji), Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, said here on Saturday.

He noted that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive for the project to be operational as soon as possible in order to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims.

According to Dahnil, President Prabowo has instructed that the Hajj Village should be able to accommodate up to 200,000 pilgrims, allowing them to be centralized in one location.

CEO of Danantara, Rosan Roeslani, and BP Hajj Head Mochamad Irfan Yusuf recently visited Saudi Arabia to review an 80-hectare site for the project.

However, the final location has yet to be determined as discussions continue to find the most suitable area.

Dahnil, a former spokesperson for the Indonesian defense minister, said that based on talks between President Prabowo and Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the Hajj Village will be owned by Indonesia rather than leased.

In addition to improving services and reducing waiting times, the project is also expected to help lower the overall cost of the pilgrimage. The complex will include hotels, hospitals, and other supporting facilities.

“Once we have the Hajj Village, we hope costs can be reduced because everything will be available in one place with integrated services,” Dahnil said.
