Bogor, West Java (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo ensured that the legal process against the seven police officers involved in the incident that killed a ride-hailing motorcycle driver, Affan Kurniawan, would be carried out swiftly and transparently.

"The handling process is currently underway. I have ordered it to be carried out fast. The ethics hearing must be ready within one week," he remarked on Saturday.

He stressed that resolving the case is a priority to provide legal certainty for the public and address growing concerns.

In addition to the ethics hearing, other legal measures may follow if wrongdoing is found that requires firm action, he added.

“We are allowing the National Police Commission (Kompolnas) and related legal institutions to access and monitor the process,” he stated.

Listyo emphasized that transparency in this case will demonstrate the Police’s commitment to impartial law enforcement.

“This is important to show the public our commitment in a case that cost a life,” he said.

He noted that a swift and transparent resolution is expected to ease public anxiety.

“Going forward, we will ensure that disciplinary action is taken firmly while also providing a sense of justice,” he underlined.

On Friday, protests spread across several cities—including Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Solo, and Makassar—targeting regional police offices and Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) buildings.

The unrest was triggered by the death of Affan Kurniawan, who was run over by a Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) tactical vehicle on Thursday (August 28) in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta.

The clash broke out after demonstrators near the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, were pushed back by police.

Seven Brimob members suspected of involvement in the incident are currently being detained and questioned.
