According to a video statement from Secretary General Muhammad Sarmuji, on Sunday, the decision was made in response to "societal dynamics."
The party said the move reinforces discipline and ethics among its members and is grounded in the "aspirations of the people," to whom Sarmuji also offered condolences for the deaths of citizens during the recent unrest.
"The aspirations of the people remain the primary foundation of the Golkar Party's struggle. All of the party's activities are truly a crystallization of the people's spirit, grounded in the national ideals as enshrined in the Preamble to the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.
Kadir's suspension follows public protests sparked by a controversial housing allowance for lawmakers.
Adies Kadir's controversy stems from comments he made, defending a new, Rp50 million (about US$3,000) monthly housing allowance for members of parliament. These remarks were widely seen as being out of touch with the economic struggles of ordinary Indonesians.
The protests escalated and became more violent after a video went viral showing a police tactical vehicle running over and killing a motorcycle taxi driver during a protest in Jakarta.
