Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) called on all elements of the nation to prioritize dialogue, avoid violence, and maintain unity amidst rising political tensions and waves of demonstrations recently marked by anarchic actions.

"ICMI urges the public not to be provoked by groups seeking to exploit the demonstrations for political gain and to divide the nation," said ICMI Chairman Arif Satria in a statement received here on Sunday.

Satria stressed that diversity and brotherhood among citizens are the nation’s greatest assets and must be preserved.

He emphasized that while demonstrations are a constitutional right, they must be carried out responsibly and peacefully, without resorting to anarchic acts.

ICMI expressed condolences for the loss of life, including that of an online motorcycle taxi driver, and urged law enforcement to take firm, transparent, and fair action against those responsible.

The association also encouraged the President to take swift, wise, and effective measures to restore political, security, and economic stability.

"People need certainty and concrete evidence that the state is always ready to protect them. Officials must show empathy for public suffering," said Satria.

He noted that public anger often arises from difficult economic conditions and officials lacking empathy, urging leaders to provide calming policies and avoid flaunting luxury.

Amid the heated political climate, ICMI stressed the importance for the public of rejecting provocations that could divide the nation.

"Diversity and brotherhood among our citizens are our greatest assets. We must unite to build a more just, prosperous, and civilized Indonesia," he added.

ICMI also reminded all parties to uphold the noble values of Pancasila. "Only by adhering to this foundation can our nation overcome various challenges," Satria concluded.
