Mataram (ANTARA) - West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal has assured that the province remains safe and stable for tourists and investors, despite several countries issuing travel warnings for Indonesia following recent unrest.

“NTB is safe, and the situation is under control. Our people have responded to the demonstrations with restraint,” he told reporters in Mataram City on Tuesday.

Iqbal downplayed the travel advisories, calling them routine precautions rather than cause for alarm. “Travel warnings are not the same as travel bans. They simply advise increased vigilance, not a halt to travel,” he said.

He explained that such notices are issued in varying levels and should not be interpreted as indications of imminent danger.

Addressing investor concerns, Iqbal said he had communicated directly with business stakeholders worried about security conditions in the region.

“I responded by sending them videos of foreigners walking freely around Mataram City. It’s important for the international community to see that our region is safe and everything is under control,” he said.

The governor also urged NTB residents to help share positive stories and portray the province as a secure and welcoming destination for domestic and foreign visitors.

His remarks came in response to travel warnings issued by countries including the United States, Malaysia, Singapore, France, Japan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Canada, following widespread protests across several Indonesian regions, including NTB.

While demonstrations have raised concern abroad, Iqbal emphasized that public order in NTB has been effectively maintained.
