..MUI strongly condemns all acts of violence, anarchism, and vandalism,Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has praised President Prabowo Subianto for taking immediate action to maintain national stability amid the wave of protests that have swept the country over the past week.
"The MUI would like to extend tremendous appreciation to the Indonesian president for taking swift and responsive measures to ensure national security and stability," Deputy Chair of the MUI Advisory Board Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi said in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the MUI fully supports the government, the police, and the military in taking firm yet proportionate measures to maintain order and enforce the law.
"In our view, Mr. President has demonstrated a strong commitment to safeguarding national stability. We fully support the authorities in maintaining order and shielding the people from threats," Sa'adi added.
The former deputy minister of religious affairs also expressed deep regret over the violence and vandalism witnessed during the nationwide unrest, describing them as violations of moral and religious values.
"The MUI strongly condemns all acts of violence, anarchism, and vandalism," he said, while offering condolences to the families of those who lost their lives during the riots.

He urged all elements of society to exercise restraint and avoid false narratives that could undermine unity and integrity.
Sa'adi also called on religious leaders, educators, and community figures to actively ease tensions and spread messages of peace.
"Public figures have a strategic role in promoting dialogue, discouraging violence, and strengthening harmony among interfaith communities. All these points are essential for the integrity of our nation," he stated.

To prevent further escalation, President Prabowo on Sunday (August 31) summoned ministers, parliamentary leaders, and political party elites to the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
After exchanging views on ways to reduce tensions and address public outcry, he stressed that the government respects freedom of expression and remains committed to fighting for the people’s interests.
He assured the public that the government and parliament would continue to heed their aspirations and follow up on their demands, including suspending lavish allowances for lawmakers while people struggle to make ends meet.
However, he reminded citizens to express their views peacefully and affirmed that authorities would take firm action against those attempting to threaten national security and stability.
