“In line with President Prabowo’s commitment, I urge everyone to protect our democracy from all forms of anarchy and damage to public facilities. Peaceful demonstrations, dialogue, and collaboration can bring greater positive impact to the people we serve,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
His remarks came in response to President Prabowo’s call for dialogue amid growing demonstrations in several regions.
Soeparno said the president’s appeal showed a strong commitment to preserving democracy through dialogue. He added that his faction and party were born from the reform era, making their vision and ideas aligned with Prabowo’s commitment to keeping democracy open to dialogue.
He called on all parties to convey opinions peacefully. “The space to express opinions is always open, and President Prabowo has also promoted dialogue with ministries and institutions. Opportunities are also available in various forums to deliver aspirations,” he said.
During his tenure in the MPR, Soeparno emphasized that dialogue has always been open, including through the “MPR Goes to Campus” program held at more than 30 universities across Indonesia.
"Because I believe the MPR is a collaborative house for all parties who want a better, more advanced, and, of course, more prosperous Indonesia," he noted.
Not only through the MPR, he also held many open lectures at several universities and many dialogues with various academics and students to absorb various ideas and aspirations.
"During my series of open lectures at more than 30 universities, I always opened a dialogue with academics, students, and professors. Many ideas and criticisms were conveyed for a better Indonesia in the future," he remarked.
