Bekasi (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi is providing social security for three million informal workers in the province by enrolling them in work-related accident and death insurance programs.

"We will provide social security for all of them, including motorcycle taxi drivers, farmers, fishermen, porters, scavengers, and street vendors. The monthly contribution is Rp16,800 (US$1.02) for three million informal workers," Mulyadi said at Gedung Sate on Monday.

He confirmed that the budget for participant contributions will be paid in installments, with four months allocated from the 2025 Revised Regional Budget of West Java Province.

"The budget will be paid in installments. This year, we have about four months left. Next year, we will calculate it with the district heads and mayors," he said.

The Head of the West Java Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), Kunto Wibowo, expressed his appreciation for the West Java Provincial Government's initiative to provide social protection for informal workers.

Wibowo lauded this step as it represents an important breakthrough in expanding the scope of social protection, especially for the large informal worker segment in West Java.

"The goal of social security for workers is to guarantee a decent living, reduce socioeconomic risks, and improve welfare. This is not just a necessity, but a basic right that all workers should have," he said.

With relatively small contributions, the benefits received by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan program participants are quite significant, ranging from unlimited medical care for work-related accidents, death benefits for survivors, scholarships for two children, and temporary disability benefits.

"This is a concrete manifestation of the state's presence in protecting all workers in Indonesia," said Wibowo.

He added that BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is ready to collaborate with provincial, district, and city governments, strategic partners, and informal worker associations to ensure that registration mechanisms, contribution payments, and claims services run optimally and on target.

"This collaboration represents a crucial milestone in expanding social security protection for workers. We hope that every informal worker, without exception, can benefit and become part of a stronger and more equitable employment ecosystem in West Java," he said.

Head of the Bekasi-Cikarang Branch of the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, Muhyiddin Dj, expressed his appreciation for the West Java Provincial Government's active role in providing social security to informal workers throughout the region.

"This collaboration between the West Java Provincial Government and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan is expected to provide adequate protection for all workers in Indonesia, especially in West Java," Muhyiddin said in Cikarang on Wednesday.

He urged local governments, stakeholders, and associations to immediately register for the social security program.

"Because workers will receive many benefits in the event of a disaster, death, accident, scholarships, and pensions," he said.
