Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman ensured that national rice production remains sufficient to accommodate public needs, thereby maintaining food security and stable rice prices throughout Indonesia.

"Our national rice production is secure. Our rice production is projected at 31.04 million tons by October," he informed during a working meeting with Commission IV of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the projected national rice production by October 2025 will reach 31.04 million tons, while consumption demand for the same period will reach 27.3 million tons. Thus, Indonesia recorded a surplus of around 3.7 million tons.

Sulaiman said that this achievement is higher than 2024, showing a positive trend that is expected to continue until the end of the year.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the rice surplus achievement is the tangible result of farmers' hard work and various strategic programs implemented by the government.

"The results of rice cultivation, irrigation improvements, and other efforts have yielded results. As of today, there has been an increase of 3.7 million tons, according to BPS," Sulaiman continued.

At the working meeting, Commission IV lauded the ministry's hard work on the national rice production.

Commission IV member Riyono assessed that the Ministry of Agriculture's performance deserves recognition for maintaining a safe rice stock.

As a member of Commission IV, which oversees agriculture, environment and forestry, and maritime affairs and fisheries, Riyono expressed his full support for the Ministry of Agriculture's efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency.

To that end, he hopes the budget for the agricultural sector can be strengthened.

"I remain consistent in the agricultural budget. In order to achieve self-sufficiency in any field, please convey in the coordination meeting with the president that the agricultural budget should be five percent of the state budget. The current budget of Rp40 trillion (US$2.3 billion) is only 1.3 percent of the total state budget," he disclosed.
