Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower has called on companies to comply with labor regulations, including proper employment of foreign workers, to ensure protection for both local and overseas employees.

“We want to ensure all foreign workers in Indonesia meet the legal requirements—from work permits and job roles to mandatory knowledge transfer to local employees,” Director of Labor Norms Inspection Rinaldi Umar said in a statement on Thursday.

The ministry's Labor Supervisory Team recently conducted inspections across several regions, including the Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP) in Central Sulawesi, from September 1–3, to assess compliance with labor standards.

Umar said the inspections aim to ensure that the use of foreign labor in industrial areas adheres to regulations, while safeguarding the rights of both workers and employers.

Under Manpower Minister Yassierli’s leadership, the ministry has increased oversight to reinforce legal compliance.

“This is not just a formality. It’s about protecting our domestic labor market and ensuring fairness for Indonesian workers,” Umar said.

The inspection found several violations, including companies hiring foreign workers without approved foreign manpower utilization plans (RPTKA) or using only visit visas instead of valid work permits.

Labor inspectors issued direct warnings to the violating companies and recommended corrective measures. Umar noted that administrative sanctions could follow, depending on the severity of the infractions.

He stressed that labor supervision is not solely punitive but also intended to foster legal certainty and industrial harmony.

“Our goal is to build a fair, dynamic, and balanced relationship between workers, employers, and the government,” Umar said.

The ministry said it will continue strengthening oversight to ensure a compliant and equitable labor environment amid growing foreign investment in Indonesia’s industrial zones.
