Jakarta (ANTARA) - Artificial intelligence (AI) is not only a necessity but an obligation for the future, and university graduates must embrace innovation to remain irreplaceable, Indonesia’s Deputy Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat said Saturday.

“AI may be amazing, but as Professor B.J. Habibie said, the most original intelligence is our brain,” Latipulhayat told an event in Jakarta. “As long as humans create technology, it won’t replace us.”

To that end, the Ministry plans to introduce AI as an elective subject in schools, aiming to equip students with the skills to master, not be replaced by, the technology.

Latipulhayat also urged university graduates to prioritize innovation and creativity in developing new solutions for society.

He cited Habibie’s example that raw materials like aluminum may seem low in value, but are transformed into high-value products such as airplanes through innovation.

“Without logic and creativity, raw materials are just that—raw. Innovation is key to building modern civilization,” he said.

Al-Azhar University Indonesia (UAI) Rector Asep Saefuddin also addressed graduates, reminding them to be lifelong learners who seek both knowledge and meaning.

“Armed with integrity, emotional intelligence, and noble character, you will, God willing, become the ‘khairul ummah’—the best generation—not only job seekers, but job creators,” Saefuddin said.

Both speakers emphasized the importance of adaptability, innovation, and values-driven education as Indonesia prepares its next generation for an AI-driven world.
