Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Agriculture has urged the animal feed industry not to raise feed prices as part of precautionary measures to stabilize feed costs and protect local livestock farmers.

Agung Suganda, Director General of Livestock and Animal Health at the Ministry, stated that the appeal comes in response to a recent surge in prices at several production centers over the past month, which has the potential to burden poultry farmers, both small and large-scale operations.

“A number of anticipatory measures have been prepared, including urging the feed industry not to raise prices, mapping out poultry farmers eligible for government corn reserves, and facilitating meetings between farmer groups and corn suppliers,” said Suganda in a statement here, Sunday.

To ensure corn supply stability amid rising demand for poultry feed, the Ministry has begun coordinating with other government bodies, including the National Food Agency.

These efforts are being reinforced through collaboration with the Food Task Force to ensure smooth distribution and to prevent hoarding practices by unscrupulous traders or middlemen that could harm farmers.

Suganda emphasized that these anticipatory measures are being taken to keep corn supplies stable, prevent a surge in feed production costs, and ensure that the public can continue to access poultry products at affordable prices.

The Ministry is also conducting intensive coordination with regional governments, livestock associations, and industry players. According to Suganda, the ministry believes that the key to resolving this issue lies in collective action by all stakeholders to ensure the smooth flow of production and distribution.

Furthermore, Suganda underlined that food self-sufficiency, a key agenda of President Prabowo Subianto and Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, can only be achieved if all elements work together to maintain price and supply stability of key commodities like corn.

He also reaffirmed that the welfare of farmers and affordable access to animal-based protein for the public remains a priority, in line with the food security towards Golden Indonesia 2045.

Based on data from the National Food Agency Price Panel, monitored in Jakarta on Sunday afternoon, the price of corn for livestock farmers at the consumer level was recorded at Rp6,602 (approx. US$0.4) per kg. Meanwhile, the price of dried shelled corn at the producer level was recorded at Rp5,511 per kg (US$0.33).
