Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government officially welcomed KRI Brawijaya 320, a new frigate procured from Italy for the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL), at a dock in Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta on Monday.

Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, together with Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, led the welcome ceremony for the vessel, which was built by the Italian company Fincantieri.

Heavily guarded by security personnel, the three leaders boarded the vessel, which had sailed for 44 days from Italy to Jakarta. They then inspected the ship’s control room, hull, and helicopter deck, where the main ceremonial event was held.

On the occasion, Minister Sjamsoeddin congratulated the crew of KRI Brawijaya 320 for successfully delivering the warship to Indonesia.

“On behalf of President Prabowo Subianto, the commander-in-chief of the TNI, I welcome you. And in the name of the Indonesian people, I can say that we are very proud to receive KRI Brawijaya 320,” he told the crew.

He also urged the ship’s personnel to strengthen their determination and dedication to safeguarding Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty and integrity and expressed confidence that the frigate would help beef up the country’s defense posture.

“Let us continue working hand in hand to pursue the interests of the nation and safeguard the integrity of the Republic of Indonesia,” he emphasized.

Measuring 143 meters in length with a maximum speed of 32 knots, KRI Brawijaya 320 can carry 171 crew members and is equipped with anti-aircraft warfare systems.

The frigate also integrates its navigational, combat, sensory, and communication systems through a high-speed data network, making it well-suited for modern naval operations.
