The ministry's Director of the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Industry, Solehan, on Monday, informed that one of the manufacturers of these medical devices, PT Graha Teknomedika (GTM) and Mindray Medical International Limited, has successfully produced two types of ventilators: the V300 and SV800, and three types of anesthesia machines: the WATO EX-35, EX-65 PRO, and A8.
"The production of these ventilators and anesthesia machines aligns with the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, which puts the medical device sector as a pillar of transformation towards a high-tech economy," he noted.
Based on trade data, the export value of anesthesia machines in the electrosurgical or electromedical instruments and equipment group jumped significantly from US$354 thousand in 2022 to US$5.84 million in 2024.
Meanwhile, the export value of ventilators reached US$10.37 million in the same year.
Therefore, he encouraged the two companies to seize the opportunity for import substitution and grow product export efforts through domestic production of ventilators and anesthesia machines.
Furthermore, the Director of Marketing and Finance at PT Graha Teknomedika, Febie Yurizia Poetri, conveyed that the launch of this new product symbolizes the revival of the Indonesian medical device industry towards independence and global competitiveness.
"Indonesia is capable of producing high-tech medical device products with international standards. This also marks an important milestone in building national independence in the medical device sector," she addressed.
The collaboration between GTM and Mindray encompasses not only financial investment but also knowledge investment, technology transfer, and human resource capacity building.
In the collaboration, Mindray provides a world-class technology platform, product design, and workforce training, while GTM invests in modern production infrastructure, assembly lines, quality control, and the development of a local supply chain.
Currently, GTM's production facilities have met the international ISO 13485 standard, along with production and testing equipment for ventilators and anesthesia machines.
The target is to reach a production capacity of 5 million units per year, including meeting export market needs.
In terms of workforce, the initial recruitment phase has involved 20 local workers trained as operators, engineers, researchers, and experts skilled in high technology. This number will continue to increase as production capacity increases.
The SV300 and SV800 ventilators and the WATO EX series anesthesia machines have achieved a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of over 40 percent, complying with regulations from the Industry Ministry.
This achievement qualifies these products for priority status in the government procurement e-Catalog.
