Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ambassador to Jordan, Ade Padmo Sarwono, expressed strong support for Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian mission for Palestine during the Muhammadiyah delegation’s visit to the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Amman on Thursday.

In a statement released by the embassy on Friday, Ambassador Sarwono praised Muhammadiyah’s role in advancing humanitarian, educational, and peace-building initiatives for the Palestinian people.

He noted that humanitarian programs in Palestine, especially in the West Bank, face significant obstacles due to the need for approval from Israeli authorities.

“If you are just going to Jerusalem, it is still possible, but traveling to other cities in the West Bank is very difficult. Even Palestinian officials are often hampered by numerous checkpoints,” he said on Thursday (September 11).

The ambassador welcomed Muhammadiyah’s decision to choose Jordan as one of the bases for its humanitarian activities for Palestine, considering it more practical and easier to coordinate with partners.

These partners include the Interfaith Society Organization under the auspices of Prince Hassan, the uncle of the King of Jordan.

On trauma recovery efforts, Ambassador Sarwono underlined the importance of such programs, especially for women and children in Gaza and the West Bank.

He also stressed the need for peacebuilding and reconciliation among the younger Palestinian generation.

“The leadership baton needs to be gradually passed to the younger generation, without negating the role of the older generation. Muhammadiyah’s efforts to promote reconciliation and social transformation align closely with this need,” he said.

He further emphasized the Indonesian Embassy’s commitment to supporting Muhammadiyah’s initiatives.

“We are ready to assist, both through diplomatic networks and coordination with local partners in Jordan and Palestine,” he said.

“Muhammadiyah’s presence with its partners in the West Bank is a valuable asset, and we hope this collaboration continues to grow for the sustainability of humanitarian and peace missions,” he added.

The meeting was also attended by Muhammadiyah Lazismu Chairman Ahmad Imam Mujadid Rais, Deputy Chair Muarawati Nur Malinda, Muhammadiyah’s International Cooperation Secretary Yayah Khibtiyah, and representatives of Muhammadiyah’s special branch in Jordan.
