Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Doha, Qatar, on Friday at 3:20 p.m. local time to meet with the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, following Israel’s recent attack on the country.

According to an official statement, President Prabowo was received at Hamad International Airport by Qatar’s Defense Minister Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Bin Hassan Bin Ali Al-Thani, Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar Ridwan Hassan, and Indonesian Defense Attaché Colonel Tengku Sony Sonatha.

A guard of honor welcomed the President before he proceeded to his vehicle.

From the airport, President Prabowo and his limited delegation traveled directly to Lusail Palace for talks with the Emir.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, speaking in Doha, confirmed that the primary purpose of the visit was to meet with the Emir.

He noted that the President’s swift decision to travel reflected Indonesia’s direct expression of solidarity with Qatar following the Israeli airstrike on Doha on Tuesday, September 9.

“Yes, that’s correct. Today, President Prabowo flew to Doha to meet directly with the Emir,” Teddy said. “His visit is a clear demonstration of Indonesia’s support for the government and people of Qatar.”

Earlier, on Wednesday, September 10, President Prabowo had expressed concern over the incident in a phone call with Sheikh Tamim, inquiring about Qatar’s condition and reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Qatar’s sovereignty and peace in the Middle East.

In addition to addressing regional tensions, the meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The visit is expected to deepen the longstanding relationship between Indonesia and Qatar in tackling global challenges.
