Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi defended the government's use of cinema screens to broadcast promotional videos, saying the practice is acceptable as long as it follows regulations and respects public comfort.

Speaking in Jakarta on Sunday, Hadi responded to public debate over a short video highlighting President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship programs, which recently aired in several movie theaters.

“Using public media to deliver messages is normal, as long as it doesn’t violate rules or disturb aesthetics and public convenience,” Hadi said.

The video, which has gone viral online, features clips of President Prabowo, along with data on key achievements. These include national rice production reaching 21.76 million tons by August 2025, the operation of 5,800 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), and the launch of 100 tuition-free Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools).

It also highlights the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, which has reached 20 million beneficiaries since its launch on January 6, 2025.

Another segment promotes the Red and White Village Cooperatives program, which has established 80,000 rural cooperatives offering basic goods, services, and microfinance.

The video is played before the main film, accompanied by a notice reminding viewers not to record the screen. Regular screenings resume once the video ends.

The government says the cinema campaign is part of a broader effort to raise public awareness of national development initiatives.
