Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is working to create interactive classrooms through learning digitalization by providing interactive flat panels (IFPs), or interactive whiteboards, to schools across the country.

Director General of Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, Gogot Suharwoto, said the program is not merely a response to technological trends, but a measure to tackle educational challenges, including low literacy and learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Learning digitalization is an effort to help Indonesian children catch up quickly and develop 21st-century skills,” he said in a podcast on learning digitalization on Monday.

He noted that the legal basis for the program is Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2025, which emphasizes revitalizing educational institutions, developing excellent schools, and implementing digital learning, including the provision of IFPs.

Suharwoto explained that interactive whiteboards have already begun distribution to several regions, with schools in Banten, Jakarta, and West Java prioritized in the first phase. Distribution to other regions will follow in subsequent phases.

Unlike smart televisions that display information one-way, he said, IFPs are designed to enable teachers and students to collaborate via a touchscreen.

The content can include text, videos, audio, gamified materials, and even augmented reality.

“These features can make learning more digestible and fun,” he added.

He also emphasized that digitalizing learning goes beyond providing devices; it also involves interactive learning content and technical guidance for teachers to help them design creative and innovative lessons.

Earlier, during a school visit in Jakarta on Thursday (September 11), President Prabowo Subianto noted that the government aims to distribute IFPs to 330,000 schools across Indonesia.

He expressed optimism that the technology will help address teacher shortages, particularly in remote areas.
