Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has announced plans to distribute smart digital screens to 330,000 schools across Indonesia by the end of this year, marking one of the government’s most ambitious education technology programs to date.

During a visit to Margaguna 10th Sekolah Rakyat High School in South Jakarta on Thursday, Prabowo said the rollout had begun, with one school already receiving the new equipment.

“This technology will improve the delivery of learning materials, including animation, and help address teacher shortages in remote regions such as Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi,” he said.

The president said 20 to 30 of the best teachers for each subject will be selected to teach live from a central studio, with lessons broadcast nationwide.

“Theoretically, one teacher can reach every class across Indonesia with this technology,” he added.

The interactive screens come equipped with cameras, allowing lessons to be monitored in real time.

“This Smart TV is built with a camera to monitor classrooms. I can see schools without teachers or where classes are overcrowded,” Prabowo explained.

For now, each school will receive one digital screen. The government aims to increase that to three screens per school next year, with the long-term goal of one per classroom.

President Prabowo stressed that digitalizing education is not just innovation but a national strategy to keep Indonesian students competitive globally.

“We will do everything possible to prepare our children for the best education. We cannot afford to lose, because the world is full of fierce competition,” he said.

The president also pledged to expand access to education for children from low-income families by establishing 500 Sekolah Rakyat in the country’s poorest communities.

The initiative will prioritize households in the lowest two income deciles, with plans to extend support gradually to deciles three through five.
