Kota Bandung (ANTARA) - Indonesia’s Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises has partnered with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) to launch a program aimed at developing tech-based young entrepreneurs.

Minister Maman Abdurrahman said the collaboration was strategic, citing ITB’s strong networks, technological foundation, and human resources.

“If we optimize empowerment and training efforts to identify young entrepreneurial talent, ITB already has the data and networks to support it,” Maman told reporters on Wednesday.

The program will run continuously and focus on three stages: training, mentoring, and expanding business networks.

“We’re also opening access to funding through angel investors and banks via business matching. This isn’t a one-off event—it’s ongoing and intensive support,” he said.

Maman cited recent studies showing that 81 percent of Indonesian youth are interested in entrepreneurship, but only about eight percent successfully start a business.

He urged ITB students and alumni to develop creative business ideas based on science and innovation.

“The main issue is consistency and maintaining entrepreneurial spirit. That’s why the government is here to help sustain that momentum,” Maman added.

ITB Rector Tatacipta Dirgantara said the ministry’s involvement would provide a positive boost to the university’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“This partnership isn’t just ceremonial; it will translate into real action supporting young entrepreneurs,” he said.

Dirgantara added that the cooperation would help startups access training, funding, and investment opportunities.

“This agreement is strategic and will significantly assist early-stage companies in scaling up,” he said.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader push to support small and medium-sized enterprises and foster innovation among the younger generation.
