Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto's latest international visit has begun, with his first stop being New York for the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

The president, along with his entourage, took off from Jakarta’s Halim Perdanakusuma Airfield on Friday at 11:37 p.m. Jakarta time.

Foreign Minister Sugiono, who joined the president’s entourage, confirmed before departing with the president that they will have a stopover in Japan before continuing the flight to New York.

“He will have a stopover in Japan’s Osaka to visit the Indonesian Pavilion at the Osaka Expo,” Sugiono told a presser at the airfield.

The minister informed that once in New York, Prabowo will speak at a high-level conference on the Palestinian question and implementation of the two-state solution on September 22.

The following day, the president will present his inaugural remarks before the UNGA General Debate session. He is the third in line to speak after the Brazilian and US leaders.

Sugiono revealed that after concluding his agenda in New York, the president will continue the visit to Canada, where he will witness the signing of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA) on September 24.

"On his return to Jakarta, the president will visit Ottawa, Canada, for an official visit and to witness the ICA-CEPA signing," he said, adding that the president is expected to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Prabowo will also have a stopover in The Hague, the Netherlands, to meet Dutch King Willem-Alexander and the caretaker Prime Minister, Dick Schoof.

The president is expected to end his visit and return to Jakarta on September 26 or 27, Sugiono remarked.
