Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team recovered the body of a British citizen who drowned at Legian Beach, Bali, on the third day of the search.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The body of the British citizen was found at 12:30 local time by the joint SAR team using a jet ski,” said Head of the Bali Search and Rescue Agency I Nyoman Sidakarya on Friday.

On Wednesday, Harrison Edward Nada Kontounas (23) was swept away after being seen swimming at Legian Beach with two others at around 5:00 a.m. local time.

The three were swimming near a red flag when the coast guard issued a warning. While two managed to reach the shore, Kontounas was carried away by the current and drowned.

Upon receiving the report, Basarnas Bali immediately dispatched five personnel to search for the victim.

On the first day, the search team was limited to shoreline patrols, as deploying SAR equipment at sea was not feasible.

The search resumed on the second day, with rubber boats covering a 15-square-meter area and jet skis scanning a separate 15-square-meter zone, assisted by a helicopter.

The joint SAR team deployed one rubber boat and two jet skis along the waters from Kelan Beach to the surrounding area, while the land rescue team followed the shoreline northward from the incident site.

Sidakarya confirmed that Kontounas was found at coordinates 08°42'04.58"S, 115°8'56.11"E, northwest of the original location.

The body was transported to Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar.

The rescue team confirmed the identity of the victim based on matching physical characteristics and the bright orange pants he was still wearing.
