Jakarta (ANTARA) - During the 80th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin called on all soldiers to reaffirm their loyalty to the nation and uphold the people’s trust.

“TNI was born from the people, serves the people, and will return to the people. Therefore, all TNI soldiers must always stand by the people and help them overcome challenges. Never hurt their feelings,” he told the troops.

In a video broadcast in Jakarta on Sunday, the minister reminded TNI personnel to stay true to their pledge of loyalty and maintain discipline and dignity as the nation’s warriors and protectors.

“May God protect TNI soldiers in their service to the state and the nation,” Sjamsoeddin said.

He also urged all personnel to reflect on Indonesia’s struggle for independence while commemorating the military’s eight decades of service, emphasizing their role in defending the nation as mandated by the Pancasila ideology and the 1945 Constitution.

The minister reaffirmed that the Defense Ministry remains committed to supporting TNI in strengthening Indonesia’s defense posture through effective and strategic policies.

“The Ministry of Defense also remains committed to advancing the independence of the national defense industry in support of TNI’s duties,” he stated.

Sjamsoeddin further highlighted Indonesia’s adherence to the “universal defense” doctrine, which calls on all elements of society to take part in safeguarding the country’s integrity and sovereignty.

“Indonesia also seeks to strengthen international cooperation by contributing actively to United Nations–mandated humanitarian and peacekeeping operations,” he remarked.

In the same broadcast, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto reaffirmed the military’s commitment to implementing policies and strategies for both combat and non-combat operations as mandated by the TNI Law.

While remaining prepared to respond to conventional security threats, he said the TNI also supports government programs related to food security, regional development, and disaster mitigation.

“This approach allows TNI to go beyond its combat duties and become an adaptive force capable of synergizing with all components of the nation,” Subiyanto said.
