Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa highlighted the significant economic impact of the 2025 Indonesian MotoGP held at the Mandalika Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, from October 3 to 5.

Puspa estimated that the Grand Prix's impact on the local economy could reach Rp4.8 trillion (roughly equivalent to US$280 million)

“This impact is extraordinary. Hotels were fully booked—my own team struggled to find accommodation,” she said during a visit to the circuit on Sunday.

In addition to high hotel occupancy, Puspa noted that transportation services were also operating at full capacity.

National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia added flights on the Jakarta–Lombok route, while Bali–Lombok flights were fully booked throughout the race weekend.

“This reflects the tremendous public and tourist interest in the Mandalika MotoGP, generating a strong multiplier effect across sectors,” she added.

Based on her assessment, Puspa described the 2025 edition as the best Indonesian MotoGP since the global championship first debuted in Mandalika in 2022.

“There were some challenges, of course, but this year’s event was a clear improvement over the previous ones. We’ll evaluate the remaining issues to further enhance tourism and support local MSMEs,” she remarked.

According to data from the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Tourism Office, hotel occupancy on Lombok Island during the race period averaged 93 percent, with Mataram City at 90 percent and Mandalika reaching full capacity.

To accommodate the surge in visitors, airlines operated 44 additional flights to Lombok, including services by Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, AirAsia, Pelita Air, and Wings Air.

On the track, Gresini Racing’s Fermin Aldeguer claimed his first MotoGP victory on Sunday, finishing ahead of Red Bull KTM’s Pedro Acosta and teammate Alex Marquez.
