“The Transportation Ministry is ready to collaborate with local governments, state-owned enterprises, and the private sector to support and encourage public transportation access to subsidized housing areas,” Purwagandhi said during a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
To support this initiative, the ministry—through the Directorate General of Intermodal Integration—is reviewing potential subsidies for feeder transport systems. The aim is to create an integrated transportation network that is safe, comfortable, and affordable for the public.
As part of this effort, the ministry is working closely with local governments to ensure consistent service quality for public transport users.
“We hope that transportation integration can expand even further, reaching public housing areas and providing safe and comfortable transportation services, so that more people will use public transportation,” Purwagandhi added.
Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), emphasized the importance of designing future cities where residential areas are located near public transport and essential public facilities.
This concept, known as transit-oriented development (TOD), aims to create urban environments that reduce dependence on private vehicles.
He explained that TOD is about bringing people closer to public facilities—workplaces, schools, healthcare centers, and open spaces.
With well-connected urban design, people can save time and money and enjoy more comfortable and efficient lives, he said.
