Bantul (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto is expected to inaugurate the Pandansimo Bridge, a key piece of infrastructure set to improve connectivity in Bantul District, Yogyakarta, Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated.

"This bridge has been under construction since November 2022, and it is ready to begin operation this year. Let us hope that President Prabowo will soon inaugurate this bridge, which will interconnect regions," he remarked.

Speaking while inspecting the project in Bantul on Thursday, AHY underscored that the Pandansimo Bridge, projected to ease mobility between Bantul and Kulon Progo districts, holds strategic value.

Recognizing the importance of enhancing connectivity between the regions, the central government mobilized Rp863.7 billion (over US$52 million) from the State Budget (APBN) to develop the bridge, which spans 2.3 kilometers, including a 675-meter main structure.

"We hope that this bridge, which is both majestic and beautiful, will help enhance inter-regional connectivity and boost the mobility of people, goods, and services," he pointed out, while highlighting its potential to cut travel time and costs.

AHY also expressed hope that the presence of the bridge would bring economic benefits to the people of Bantul and surrounding areas.

Furthermore, he assured the public that he would continue to carry out field inspections to ensure optimal development of vital infrastructure projects, especially those needed to link regions and support equitable growth.

"We will report the result of this visit to Mr. President, and hopefully, he will soon arrange a schedule to officiate this bridge," he concluded.

During the inspection, AHY was accompanied by Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and Head of Bantul District Abdul Halim Muslih.
