Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto's participation in the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt reflects the international community's trust in Indonesia’s ability to help resolve conflicts, People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Deputy Speaker Eddy Soeparno said on Monday.

"We are pleased to learn that President Prabowo participates in the conference for world peace," he remarked at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta.

Soeparno described Prabowo as one of the world figures capable of helping to end the long-running conflict in Gaza and ease the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.

He noted that the President has consistently affirmed Indonesia's determination to support Palestine in achieving freedom and independence.

"Mr. President has been consistent in echoing this ambition since he took office," Soeparno said, as the Prabowo administration approaches its first anniversary on October 20.

He added that Prabowo reiterated Indonesia's commitment to Palestine and world peace during his recent address at the UN General Assembly in New York.

"We can lead Indonesia to contribute to world peace, as mandated by the 1945 Constitution," Soeparno said.

Earlier, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that Prabowo decided to attend the Gaza Peace Summit following a sudden invitation on October 11.

"President Prabowo received the invitation and chose to attend, as it is part of the ongoing negotiations that, God willing, will bring peace to Palestine," Hadi said on Sunday.

On Monday, Prabowo arrived at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport in Egypt, where he was welcomed by Egyptian Presidential Protocol Chief Mohammed Mokhtar, Indonesian Ambassador Lutfi Rauf, and Defense Attaché Colonel Dafris Syahruddin.
