Jakarta (ANTARA) - Law Minister Supratman Andi Atgas stated that the paralegal training program in North Maluku aims to accelerate access to justice for Indonesians, particularly at the regional level.

Speaking in Ternate, North Maluku, on Monday, the minister said that paralegals stationed at legal aid posts across Indonesia serve as the frontliners in ensuring public access to justice.

Atgas emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to expanding access to the justice system, as outlined in one of the Astacita priorities — guaranteeing that every citizen has the right to justice, fair trial, and legal assistance.

The minister also commended the North Maluku Government’s commitment to establishing legal aid posts throughout the province, expressing hope that their efforts could serve as a model for other regions.

He confirmed that 1,185 legal aid posts have been established across villages in 10 cities and districts in North Maluku. Nationwide, there are a total of 41,652 legal aid posts providing inclusive and equitable legal services, including mediation, advocacy, and consultation.

On the occasion, Minister Atgas appointed North Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda as National Legal Aid Posts Ambassador in recognition of her strong support for the initiative in the island province.

He noted that Tjoanda’s appointment reflects the government’s commitment to expanding legal aid to the grassroots level.

In her remarks, Governor Tjoanda expressed her appreciation for the close collaboration among the ministry, regional government, and local communities in expanding access to justice through the legal aid posts.

She also affirmed her readiness to fulfill her duties as ambassador, stressing that legal aid posts must remain responsive to public needs and proactive in providing solutions to people’s legal challenges.
