Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Industry is currently preparing a new regulation regarding factory safety against radiation exposure.

"We are preparing the regulation requiring industrial areas and factories in Indonesia to report the results of Radiation Portal Manufacturing (RPM) surveys," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said when met at the Investor Daily Roundtable in Jakarta on Tuesday.

According to him, this policy was implemented as a mitigation effort after the exposure to the radionuclide Cesium-137 (Cs-137) in the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, Serang, Banten.

In the future, the ministry will require every industry to report the amount of radiation exposure quarterly.

Kartasasmita said that Indonesia has the technology and equipment to examine radioactive levels.

In addition, he is planning to offer businesses the option to purchase testing equipment or collaborate with a third party to conduct tests or surveys.

"We are pushing for the second one. The point is, industrial areas and all factories must report to the Ministry of Industry through SIINas (National Industrial Information System) regarding the results of the Radiation Portal Monitoring survey every three months," he stated.

The regulation will be issued as soon as possible and can be implemented immediately, he added.

Previously, the ministry had ensured public safety and investment continuity by confirming that there was no impact on public health or industrial activities in the Cikande area.

In addition, the ministry stressed that the safety of raw materials, production processes, and product distribution in the area remains intact, with no signs that radiation exposure has affected the supply chain or product quality.

In a global context, Kartasasmita underlined public safety as a crucial factor in maintaining export market confidence in national products.

Therefore, his party is actively coordinating with relevant agencies to ensure this radiation handling does not affect the reputation of the Indonesian industry in the global market.

Currently, the government is decontaminating multiple sites suspected of radioactive Cesium-137 (Cs-137) exposure within the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, Serang District, Banten, with the targeted completion in December 2025.
