Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's commitment to revitalizing transmigration areas represents a tangible step toward achieving economic equity rooted in local potential, a minister has said.

“Through the revitalization of various transmigration areas, we hope to foster economic development in these regions,” Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) stated said during the Ministry of Transmigration’s 24-Hour Open House on Saturday.

According to AHY, the revitalization initiative aims to enhance community productivity, thereby driving economic growth in transmigration zones.

He emphasized that boosting community competitiveness is key for transmigrants to access decent employment, earn sufficient income, and maintain purchasing power to support their families and contribute to regional prosperity.

AHY also stressed that strengthening the local economy must go hand in hand with promoting high-potential sectors such as agriculture, plantations, tourism, the creative economy, and sustainable industries that can absorb a significant workforce.

As a concrete measure, the Ministry of Transmigration and the Ministry of Industry have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance synergy in developing transmigration areas and stimulate economic growth through community-based industries.

This collaboration is expected to lead to the creation of Integrated Transmigration Economic Zones (KETT), serving as a model for inclusive and productive regional development with the potential to generate a multiplier effect for the local economy, AHY remarked.

He added that the success of the transmigration program could become a blueprint for village development based on local strengths, inspiring a bottom-up approach to national development—from villages to cities.

AHY expressed optimism that strong collaboration, supported by local governments, would pave the way for equitable development across Indonesia.

“There is ample room for new growth. With effective cooperation among ministries and institutions—both central and regional—Indonesia will advance, not only in Java but across all regions,” he affirmed.
