The team, named Saven, includes Muhammad Irgi Alfarisi (vocational studies), Gita Rizka Ramadhani (economics), and Dandi Apriansyah (computer science).
Their innovation, Automated Scheduling & Berth Allocation (ASBA), is designed to boost port efficiency through predictive scheduling and intelligent berth management.
“Our idea started during a school break. We wanted to be productive and tackle real challenges in the port industry,” said Alfarisi on Monday.
“My coursework gave me the practical tools to turn this idea into something actionable,” he added.
ASBA addresses long-standing inefficiencies in Indonesia’s port sector, which ranked 61st out of 139 countries in the World Bank’s 2023 Logistics Performance Index.
The system features a 92 percent accurate AI prediction engine for ship arrivals and a real-time scheduler that updates every 15 minutes.
It also includes an optimization core based on Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) and is built to integrate with national systems such as Inaportnet, CEISA, VTS, TOS, and NLE.
ICON 3.0, themed “Digital Transformation in the Port Industry,” challenged university students to create scalable digital solutions for national logistics problems.
Saven's cross-disciplinary approach combined practical training, economic analysis, and technical skills. Team members juggled competition deadlines with internship commitments, while also solving complex, real-world case studies.
“The case lacked a ready solution from industry,” Alfarisi said.
“We had to build a strategic, original idea while managing time between the competition and internships,” he added.
ASBA highlights growing student contributions to Indonesia’s digital transformation and the potential of university-led innovation to support infrastructure development.
UI is widely regarded as Indonesia’s top public university. President Prabowo Subianto recently expressed optimism that UI will soon break into the world’s top 100 universities.
During a cabinet meeting Monday, Prabowo noted UI’s entry into the top 200 of the QS World University Rankings, where it now ranks 189th. He urged the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to push the university further.
