The agreement was conveyed after Sjafrie met with South African Defense Minister Matsie Angelina Motshekga at the Ministry of Defense office here on Wednesday (October 22).
He emphasized that the collaboration is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral ties and military cooperation between the two countries.
Although specific details of the partnership have not yet been disclosed, Sjafrie said the cooperation will include technology development for ammunition production and capacity enhancement for Indonesia’s domestic defense industry.
The meeting also discussed several of PT Pindad’s flagship products, ranging from tactical vehicles to various types of locally manufactured weaponry.
Sjafrie also showcased other Indonesian defense industry achievements, such as the locally built landing platform dock (LPD) warship and the N-219 transport aircraft developed by PT Dirgantara Indonesia.
Both products reportedly attracted the interest of the South African delegation.
Through this partnership, the government hopes to facilitate effective technology transfer in the military sector while strengthening Indonesia’s position in the global defense industry.
Sjafrie expressed confidence that the strategic cooperation would not only enhance Indonesia’s military capabilities but also benefit both nations.
He added that South Africa holds significant potential for joint development in the defense sector.
With this collaboration, Indonesia aims to expand its international defense partnerships and accelerate progress toward achieving self-reliance in national defense.
