“Our command has decided to use the recently unveiled design for the new field uniform of the TNI. We will distribute the fresh attire to all soldiers,” TNI Information Office Head Major General Freddy Ardianzah told reporters at the TNI Headquarters in Jakarta on Thursday.
He confirmed that some soldiers are still wearing the older field uniform, defined by a darker green tone. First adopted in 1982, the previous design is known as the Malvinas Camouflage, a reference to the Malvinas, or Falklands, War that occurred that same year.
The newly launched field uniform displays smaller blocks of camouflage pattern with a lighter hue of green than the old attire.
According to Ardianzah, the new uniform is currently used only by quite a small number of personnel, notably the troops and high-ranking officers who attended the commemoration of TNI’s 80th Anniversary at the National Monument, Jakarta, on Sunday (October 5).
The major general reiterated that all personnel in the TNI would soon sport the new field dress to showcase uniformity, discipline, and cohesiveness in serving the nation.
Earlier, TNI Deputy Commander General Tandyo Budi Revita explained that introducing the new field uniform was deemed necessary to replace the Malvinas Camouflage, which has been considered outdated due to its decades-long use.
“After all, we believe that with the new color, our camouflage uniform can help our soldiers better disguise themselves in vegetation during forest operations,” he remarked in Jakarta on Wednesday (October 8).
He underlined that under the order of TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, all soldiers from the Army, Navy, and Air Force will soon begin using the new camouflage dress.
“The Commander issued the instruction on September 27, 2025,” Revita said, noting that he and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army Lieutenant General Muhammad Saleh Mustafa, among a few others, have started using the new uniform.
