Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto expressed his admiration for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and said he has been inspired by many of Lula’s policies during a tête-à-tête meeting at the President’s Office, Merdeka Palace, on Thursday.

“We have a good relationship. Personally, I admire your policies and I follow many of them, as we share the same interests and ambitious goals to improve the welfare of our people,” President Prabowo told President Lula.

Expressing gratitude for President Lula’s visit to Indonesia, Prabowo also emphasized the similarities between the two nations.

“We are both large countries, led by strong and successful leaders of nations that are growing and developing well,” President Prabowo said.

He further noted that Brazil is an important leader in the Latin American region and plays a key role among developing countries.

For his part, President Lula thanked President Prabowo for the warm welcome at Merdeka Palace.

Following their statements, the meeting at the President’s Office continued behind closed doors.

President Lula arrived at Merdeka Palace around 10:00 a.m. local time, where he was greeted with a state welcome ceremony on the palace grounds.

At Merdeka Palace, the two leaders attended a series of sessions, including a private tête-à-tête, a bilateral meeting between the Indonesian and Brazilian governments, and the joint delivery of a statement on the outcomes of the talks.

Lula’s state visit to Jakarta is part of his Southeast Asia tour. The visit also serves as a return trip, following President Prabowo’s official visit to Brazil’s Palácio do Planalto in Brasília on July 9, 2025.
