Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, reaffirmed Indonesia’s strong commitment to multilateralism, stressing that ASEAN and the United Nations must work together to demonstrate that true strength lies in collaboration.

“ASEAN and the United Nations must stand firm, to demonstrate that true strength lies in collaboration, not confrontation,” the Foreign Minister stated on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto at the 15th ASEAN-United Nations Summit Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Monday (Oct.27)

Minister Sugiono underlined that the ASEAN-UN Plan of Action 2026–2030 provides a road map for practical and forward-looking cooperation, particularly in food security and climate action.

He emphasized that building resilient food systems and accelerating sustainable energy transitions are essential for a stable and prosperous future. The United Nations, including the FAO and WFP, remains a key partner in advancing ASEAN’s food security agenda, he added.

“Indonesia also looks forward to working closely with the UN to enhance regional food supply resilience and promote sustainable farming,” he said.

On climate cooperation, Minister Sugiono highlighted the ASEAN Power Grid initiative to enhance regional energy connectivity and renewable energy integration, inviting UN support in financing and capacity-building for a just transition.

“We invite the UN to be our partner in facilitating access to financing, technology adoption, and capacity-building, to ensure a just energy transition that benefits all and leaves no one behind,” he highlighted.

He also encouraged a stronger UN presence in Jakarta, reflecting shared commitment to peace, sustainability, and partnership.

“A stronger UN presence in Jakarta, the diplomatic heart of ASEAN, would send a powerful message of our shared commitment to action, rooted in partnership and mutual respect,” he emphasized.
