Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said the updated SNDC includes two Low Carbon Compatible with the Paris Agreement (LCCP) scenarios, projecting emission reductions of 8 to 17.5 percent.
“Indonesia remains committed to its emission reduction pledge to lead a just and sustainable energy transition,” Nurofiq said in Jakarta.
The Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (ENDC) 2022 had estimated total emissions reaching 1,953 million tons of CO2 equivalent by 2030.
Nurofiq highlighted that strengthening domestic policies underpins a competitive green economy, adding that Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 on Carbon Economic Value could enhance Indonesia’s role in the global carbon market.
Forestry, he said, will play an increasingly central role in emission reductions, with the energy sector requiring more time to transition. Initiatives now focus on managing 12.7 million hectares to advance a forest-based green economy.

Indonesian President’s Special Envoy for Climate and Energy Hashim Sumitro Djojohadikusumo emphasized international collaboration as key to meeting targets.
“Indonesia is expanding global market access and boosting the credibility of its national carbon unit through Mutual Recognition Agreements with partners including Japan, Gold Standard, and Verra,” he said.
The ministry said the Indonesian Pavilion at the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil will highlight the theme “Accelerating Substantial Actions of Net Zero Achievements through Indonesia’s High Integrity Carbon.”
The pavilion will bring together policymakers and carbon market actors to strengthen a sustainable carbon trading ecosystem.
From 2015 to 2024, Indonesia restored more than two million hectares of land, reducing forest fires by 19.6 percent.
The forestry sector secured USD 499.8 million in Result-Based Payments, with USD 340.7 million disbursed, including USD 103.8 million from the Green Climate Fund through UNDP.
Climate action is part of the Astacita program under President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, aiming to advance sustainable development while mitigating environmental risks.
