In 2024, for example, the target for reducing carbon emissions in the energy sector was 142 million tons of CO2, Director of Various New and Renewable Energy at the ministry Andriah Feby Misna said.
The realization of decarbonization was 147.61 million tons of CO2, or 5.61 million tons higher than the target, she highlighted.
"We are able to achieve a reduction in emissions of 147.61 million tons, exceeding the annual target that has been set. We also hope that by 2030, we can maintain consistent achievements," she said here on Tuesday.
Elaborating on energy sector decarbonization in 2024, she informed that 30.25 million tons of CO2 was reduced through energy efficiency, 15.18 million tons through the use of low-carbon fuels, and 74.73 million tons through the use of new and renewable energy.
In addition, 15.16 million tons of CO2 reduction was achieved through the use of the latest low-emission technology, she added.
For 2030, the government is targeting to decarbonize the energy sector by 358 million tons of CO2.
To optimize the realization of the clean carbon vision, in keeping with the Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution (E-NDC), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is implementing several strategies, which include strengthening electrification in the transportation, agriculture, and induction stove sectors.
They also include the development of new and renewable energy, the imposition of a moratorium on steam power plants (PLTUs) and early retirement of PLTUs, as well as the implementation of energy efficiency.
In addition, the ministry has prepared a national electricity general plan (RUKN) to prioritize electrification from new and renewable energy sources, whose potential is estimated to be more than 3,600 gigawatts (GW).
The E-NDC is a target for cutting Indonesia's total emissions from 29 percent or 835 million tons of CO2 to 32 percent or 912 million tons of CO2 by 2030.
