Held on the sidelines of the 2025 APEC Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, the meeting focused on advancing the joint fighter jet development program as part of the two countries’ long-standing defense partnership.
“I think we will continue to discuss the follow-up to the KF-21 project. The negotiators are continuing, and of course, negotiations always depend on economic factors, price, and financing schemes,” Prabowo said in an audio recording received in Jakarta on Saturday.
According to him, ministers and a technical team will continue detailed discussions on the fighter jet project with the South Korean government.
On the same occasion, Lee highlighted that South Korea and Indonesia have collaborated extensively on the development of the fighter jet.
“I hope this (cooperation) will generate greater results for both of us, and we can continue this good example of collaboration,” he said.
He addressed that the two countries have already established cooperation in various fields, namely economics, trade, and investment. Therefore, he expressed hope that their cooperation could be elevated to a higher level.
In response, President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the well-established close partnership between the two countries, both in the economic and defense sectors.
Prabowo added that over the past year, communication between the Indonesian government and Korean industry players has been highly active.
“I met with Korean industry and business leaders when they visited Indonesia. We had extensive discussions, and we are very open to Korea’s continued participation in our economy. We look forward to continuing this cooperation,” he said.
Prabowo also praised President Lee for his leadership and the efficient organization of the 2025 APEC Summit.
“I would like to congratulate you on your leadership of APEC. This event was organized very efficiently and always on time, down to the minute,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, President Lee conveyed that South Korea looks forward to President Prabowo’s official state visit, which was postponed in September.
“I believe the Korean people will welcome you wholeheartedly,” Lee stated.
